Lyrics and music written by Hecatombe.

Recording

Hate 'n Rage is Hecatombe's new work. It songs were started to be written even in 2003. Some songs are ready ever since, a few were discarted and a few more were ready during the recording process. The process begun at october 2005 and ended in august 2007. All instrumental was recorded at ACIT studio, Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil. Vocals were recorded at Fher Costa Studio, Caxias do Sul, RS, between april and august 2006.

Note: the first guitar sessions (6 tracks from 6 songs, from caldo and moelevil) were lost. Hell yeah, gone from studio's HD, so we fuckin' had to do it all again. Goddamn digital age.

Notes about the songs.

Gone: gone was composed to be a heavy and straight song. it was wroted in just one day, by all hecatombers but boll3t, who was pissed with extra facts, writing "open your eyes" lyrics’ somewhere else. they called him to the drums, where he “learned” how to play the song, and they way it sounded it’s the version of this record. it lyrics were written on the very next day. read lyrics

Tomorrow is Another Day: this song was composed by caldo, wood and mark, on boll3t’s kitchen. the last guitar riff was deleted, coz it didn’t fit in the song. on a band’s dinner, caldo came with the idea which is in the final version, so it was again part of the song. the verse riff was without the brake, boll3t suggested to that note be taken, and as soon as everybody approved, he asked to himself the riff’s credits. :) Another lyrics that talks about the hipocrisy that rules our planet. read lyrics

Give it Back: we had this idea to make a fast, short and agressive song. mark, wood and boll3t wrote the song at boll3t's apartment, with the guitar unplugged and boll3t doing the drumming on the floor. moelevil, who was his whole life waiting for a song like these, almost died when he heard it. read lyrics

Open Your Eyes: this song was very different from the one that you can hear it here. on the beggining, it had a different intention on the verse, which mark actually hated, sweared and complained all the time, until it was changed. it had a 5/8 intro, created by caldo, but it was ripped off from the final version. the lyrics were written by boll3t, outside our rehearsal room, coz he was very pissed, when all the other hecatombers were writing gone. read lyrics

Hunter of Souls: this song was born on a jam. we just wanted to make a rythmic song like this, and just jammed until the song came. just for the record, caldo was not there on that day. moelevil came with the second part a few days later. the lyrics were meant to work with bad feelings [such as depression] metaphors. read lyrics

Dust to Dust: dust to dust was written by boll3t and caldo, and to acchieve the heavyness and agressivity pretended, the guitars were tuned a tone and a half lower of the instrument's default, plus one more key lower on the 6th string. boll3t wrote something like 8 sentences and simply got stucked. after he gived up, he went to sleep, but couldn't, until he got the insight, took his notebook and wrote the whole lyrics in about 20 minutes. It lyrics talks about reckless attittudes that can compromise a whole future. read lyrics

Retaliation: well, actually this is a caldo's song, made on his own on his solo project. after we heard it, we tenously stole the song from him. we just had the work to put the lyrics on it, and you've got yourself a song. it remained ready since 2003. just before recording hate 'n rage, we changed the intro, inserting the acoustic guitar's one. read lyrics

Hate 'n Rage: the first written song of this record, just after demo 2002. since the end of this year, it remained for so long without been noticed that almost all hecatombers forgotten it. it was saved due to a guitar track which was recorded when we wroted it. this was the first song written on a differente tune. at the first time, this song was titled "i hate people", but it's name was changed since this lyrics fit a lot in this record theme. read lyrics

Final War: this song it's part of the 'student of the devil' (nightmares) and 'changing their minds' (demo 2002) history. it has an instrumental intro which lasts almost 4 minutes, and wasn't recorded on this record. this lyrics got 2 characters, as you can notice reading them and listening to mark's different
vocal approach to each one of them. read lyrics

Me Against Me: this song could be title "close the curtains", or something like that. was the last written, it joined the set list on the last time and closes the cd. even with all the instrumental parts
recorded, it didn't have a name, lyrics or even vocal line. the lyrics were written by mark, wood and moelevil, a week before the vocal tracks were recorded. we decided not to put guitar solo on it. just to keep it's closing meaning, the piano loop was written by boll3t during the mixing process, and recorded on the last mixing session. to compose the song, wood took his acoustic guitar and he tuned it just like dust to dust. read lyrics
